FEATURING: Manila Paris Confidential (MPC) - Jazz, with no strings attached.

Jazz, with no strings attached. That pretty much caught my attention as I was making my way through the busy crowd of SM Megamall a little while ago. Despite today’s being an instant National Holiday, people still flooded the busy streets and malls of the metro. It wasn’t such a surprising occurrence for lately I have accustomed myself to the busy life.

Anyway, that line was magnificently glaring back at me as the spot and flood lights were beaming at them on stage. “Groovy,” I thought. I walked past several spectators eagerly waiting for something to happen really soon. I could have stayed a while and see what the fuzz would be all about but I went on and carried out my original intention. I went to SM to buy me a new umbrella. Nothing fancy, just one of those things I got to have out of necessity, but should be something really cool, with automatic single push-button to open and another to retract.

After fulfilling my burning desire to acquire such ingenious piece of technology, I hurried myself to the shuttle terminal where FX’s would be waiting for me and the rest of us, commuters. But as I was pacing through the mall, I hear music so lively, with a strong upbeat rhythm. I followed this alluring sound accented with beats and notes in unusual and unexpected places.

I should have guessed, it was the Manila Paris Confidential playing their soulful sound of Jazzy tunes and beats. Before I knew it, I was back where I started. I have been brought back to the place where “Groovy” was at the top of my head, only this time it had a savvy Jazzy appeal to it. I attempted to pull myself away, knowing that I was already running late. But the music dragged me to linger some more and experience Jazz like I have never experienced it before.

These guys were making music - with one man musically fiddling around his Keyboard, another thumping his Congo to dynamic beats of their Jazz, and finally one blustering out breaths of melodic tunes with his Sax.

The sound was so full and complete, that I’d often hear other instruments being played. That was weird. Only then did I realize that the Sax guy had a laptop in front of him, right about his knee, just enough that the big speakers could hide it from my view. I had to take a different angle to see it. And yup, they had help… from their handy-dandy laptop. What amazing wonders technology has brought us!

It was jazz alright, with no strings attached, but with a laptop instead. Haha. But it was really amazing! Very ingenious, just like my amazing automatic umbrella. Well, alright, maybe my umbrella’s not half as good as their laptop idea but you get my point. What ingenious people indeed.

I took out my handy-dandy cellphone, and took a snapshot. Oh bummer, it’s blurred.

Manila Paris Confidential is a collaboration of two musicians. Alvin Cornise from Manila on saxophones and flute and David Starck from Paris on piano and keyboards. The sound is a mix of Jazz, Latin, Funk all spiced with distinctive Electronica sound.

They really inspired me to pursue my own quest of making my distinct brand of music. One thing I really learned from this whole experience… Always bring a trusty (handy) digital camera – or a close substitute like a high quality camera phone. You never know when you’d need to take another picture for your blog. Don't settle for those cheap-ass-pseudo-camera-phone like the one I used to take the photo above. Damn it.

Lesson learned.

Hi, thanks for showing me a better photo.. :) Hehe.. They're really good diba? But do you know who the guy in the middle is? I don't know where to look for any info about him..

And oh, thanks for dropping by.. :)

Angel of Mayhem said...

Thanks.. :)

I think I should try doing that.. Maybe I could bring back the era of big bands, but it will just be me, and someone else handling the laptop.. wahahah, or maybe not.. Kahit ano, basta, I will be one day on mall tours playing my own music..

Big dreams don't cost a thing.. :)
