ANCHORING: Superior Feats of Multi-Tasking

It is common knowledge that people are really gifted to an extent that we all can perform several tasks at the same time. Multi-tasking is something that a lot of us aim to be proficient at. And it is reasonable and very much practical for us to be an expert multi-tasker, for it gives us more value than those who can not.

Fundamentally, we all multi-task. Breathing is something we all do non-stop; and doing something else while breathing is, on a primordial sense, multi-tasking in itself.

I, for one, used to study while watching TV, a very useful skill that I have perfectly mastered all through the years of schooling. If a TV is not available, a radio would take its place. When I reached college, a PC then eventually a laptop replaced the TV and the radio. It’s not that I couldn’t study without them; it’s just that I feel I am more efficient with them around me.

Now that am on my way to building a very strong and lucrative career, my multi-tasking skills got even more beneficial. I guess, any career would value someone who could multi-task at a very efficient and yet graceful manner.

In the office, you'd see a lot of master multi-taskers; doing a report on their 17” Apple MacBook or Alienware Aurora mALX, while on their Sony Ericsson Black Diamond talking to a client, and sipping a Starbucks Cinnamon Dolce Latte with Sugar-Free Syrup steaming on their desk. Easy enough, I should say.

Outside the office, several others also multi-task beyond expert levels; crossing the busy streets with an Aliph Jawbone Bluetooth headset, most probably on their iPhone 3G in an important business call, while at the same time tinkering with their BlackBerry Storm 9530, most probably checking out emails, or simply toying around with it.

On a more relaxed manner, young professionals dawn on earphones of their new 16GB iPod nano, now with a video camera and a dramatic polished aluminum finish, carelessly grooving to the beat of Lady Gaga’s Poker Face, while taking clumsy photos, of course with their iPod nano, of other busy young professionals which I think happens to be their friends who are holding for themselves a 64GB iPod touch. Not much of a challenge, I suppose.

This is, perhaps, almost always, an everyday occurrence! (I hope I made sense back there.) But anyway, what I’m trying to say is, the cosmos will never, and I mean never, fail to surprise us.

On my way to work the other day, I was riding my usual shuttle service. Sitting at the far back end of the car, I would do some minor multi-tasking. Sitting quietly, while keeping a light book for an easy on-the-road read. Either that or I sit and just sleep. On this particular day, I had conceded to my unwavering need to get more snooze minutes. I had, for some unexplainable twist of events, slept late the night before.

During the whole trip, I had been sleeping, only waking up a few minutes before I got to my stop. Talk about perfect timing! So much for my multi-tasking feat.

As I was about to get off the car, something really intrigued me and had me take a second, third and fourth look. I had to take out my latest Hasselblad HD2-39 with 39 Mega Pixel shooting capability. Oh wait, I believe I only had that in my dream the other night! Forgive me, I have this weird knack of not distinguishing fact from fiction.

Yeah, I only brought my Canon Digital IXUS 80 IS that day, relatively cheaper than that dream camera. And it served its purpose nonetheless, since on my fifth look this is what I got.

Multi-tasking

Now that's a Superior Multi-Tasker at his finest!

My idea of multitasking in crossing the busy streets of Espana and running to my class while checking my face in the mirror and studying for an exam. but nothing beats the guy who reads the paper while driving :D

And yeah, although I didn't really check my face i nthe mirror while ruuning to class and studying for an exam at the same time, I guess you can say that I've been there and done that too.. wahaha, and oh, I was crossing the busy streets of Katipunan then.. :)

Koji A. Iizuka said...

Ha! Katipunan's scarier! :D Espana's so congested that you can still run around while checking your face.

Angel of Mayhem said...

Haha, maybe I should practice that.. Crossing the street and checking my face at the same time.. But then I'd look very vain.. but then again, who cares.. I am VAIN! wahahaha! :P
